Getting Around

Traveling by Air

The international airport for the Cook Islands is on Rarotonga, which lies at the heart of the Polynesian group of island countries, making it a convenient stop for trans-Pacific flights.

The premier carrier, Air New Zealand operates several weekly scheduled flights from New Zealand, Hawaii, Tahiti, Los Angeles and Fiji. Pacific Blue also flies from Australia and New Zealand. Air Rarotonga takes care of internal air services, and flies regularly to most of the northern and southern group.

Traveling by Sea

Alternative ways to get to the Cooks but which take more time, are by ocean liner or yacht.

Taking the bus

A regular round-the-island bus service is available on Rarotonga. A detailed timetable can be found at The Little Polynesian front desk. Without stopping, a trip around the entire island will take only about 45 minutes, so you can see you are never too far from where you wanna be.

Driving in the Cooks

Cars and motor scooters can be rented but all drivers must obtain a current Cook Islands license, which costs US$6.50 and can be obtained with a current valid driver's license in the country of your residence. Driving is on the left-hand side of the road.
